New Rupee Symbol in Debian

Steps to include new rupee font in Debian:

1.Download the file named Rupee Foradian.ttf from the the Foradian Technology blog “http://blog.foradian.com/rupee-font-version-20

2.In your Debian machine login as root or use su

mkdir /usr/share/fonts/ttf
cp Rupee_Foradian.ttf /usr/share/fonts/ttf
apt-get install ttmkfdir
cd /usr/share/fonts/ttf
ttmkfdir  > fonts.scale
mkfontdir
cd /usr/share/fonts/ttf/
chmod 644 /usr/share/fonts/ttf/Rupee_Foradian.ttf

3.Now either reboot your computer or restart gdm and start enjoying Indian rupee Symbol :P

    I already had read that article in the morning , and you can also read in the post the I have used the foradian rupee font :P

    Another option is, in Ubuntu (I'm sure it should be similar in debian too), just open the font and click 'Install font' button on bottom left. No need for command line at all.

    Then select the font in OpenOffice.org and press the back-quote key `. Unfortunately, we use the back-quote key for a number of activities in Linux, but still it's usable if we have to write some print article/pdf having the rupee symbol. Thanks for the post.

    @vivek : thnx. here is my reply :

    for ubuntu : whatever you are saying is correct .
    for fedora you can just copy the ttf file to the .font directory under the user home directory and run the command ” fc-cache” and use the font.
    [for Debian the font viewer doesn't have any install button and .fonts doesn't exist under home directory at-least in Lenny]

    Hi Gaurav,
    It's happy to get the INR font. It would be more of state of the art if the key stroke an be modified to a combination of keys like Ctrl+` rather than ` alone since this is a well known key used in Linux :)
